Gerard Roofs

Roof for a new home Case studies

Projecting strength and permanence

The choice of Gerard Roofs Colortile in a satin finish was ideal for the French Chateau style of this house. The Wedgewood colour and barrel trim allow the roof to bring a formal feel to the rendered plaster cladding.

Architect Ray Hawthorne specialises in design projects that seek to replicate the traditions of a bygone era, using the latest materials and specialist building techniques. For this project, the owners wanted a substantial home with a ‘South of France’ ambience. They also specified the traditional European bell-cast eaves, or aleros de campaulas. Curving the lower part of the roof to a gentler slope helps to create an impression of strong, substantial walls.

Steep pitch puts roof on show

The rippled texture of this Gerard Corona Shake roof creates a striking first impression. Constant variation between light and shadow softens the expansive roof area and allows it to complement the property’s magnificent karaka and puriri trees. The result is a roof with a real wow factor that’s in harmony with its natural environment.

The owners of this striking country home also selected a Gerard pressed steel roof for practical reasons. The 580m2 roof catches the family’s water supply and water collected from a Gerard roof will meet the World Health Organisation’s criteria for safe drinking. Durability was another factor in their choice, as was the roof’s light weight, which helped limit the framing costs for a roof of this size.

Enduring stone in an exposed coastal setting

The rural coastal setting of this substantial home is truly inspiring. But it also calls for roofing materials that can withstand high winds and salt spray. In addition, the owners specified a lightweight roof to achieve the steep pitch, dormer windows and design detail in the most practical way.

A Gerard pressed steel roof was the ideal solution. By selecting the Oberon Shingle profile in Eclipse, the owners were able to create a sophisticated combination of Charcoal and Onyx greys to complement the Otago schist walls and cedar joinery. The result is a warm, secure country manor to be loved and lived in for a very long time.

Quietly strong and confident

As you arrive at this luxurious seaside home, its roof contributes significantly to the all-important street appeal. Understandably, the owners and their architect wanted to make sure the roof would not dominate the approach to the house. They also realised the elevated seaside location demanded a roofing material that could withstand high winds and salt-laden air for a very long time.

After driving by countless other Gerard homes and hours of research, the owners agreed to their architect’s recommendation of a Gerard pressed steel roof. By selecting the textured Gerard Senator Shingles in Onyx, they’ve created a look of quality that’s in keeping with the natural environment. And the time-proven method of interlocking horizontally fixed tiles keeps the owners safe and secure, even in the worst coastal storms. They also have the reassurance of knowing that a Gerard roof comes with a 50-year weatherproof guarantee, even in coastal locations.

Contemporary, light and simple

When you’re designing a home with Gerard’s lightweight and flexible roofing options, everything becomes much easier. You can experiment with different profiles, create layers of roof and glass to attract more light into your home and maximise your budget by reducing the level of structural support required.

The crisp angles and understated elegance of this modern contemporary home are beautifully complemented by the clean lines of the Gerard Corona Shake with a textured Charcoal finish. By selecting a Gerard roof, the owners have not only created an attractive home, they’ve also gained ongoing peace of mind. Gerard roofs come with a 50-year weatherproof guarantee, even in high-wind and coastal environments, so the owner’s investment, lifestyle and treasured possessions are protected for years to come.

Well secured with looks that last

With 10 levels flowing over four stories, this is a substantial home by anyone’s standards. Clad in concrete, Linea™ weatherboard and volcanic stone, it sits proud and high overlooking a suburb to the sea. It’s an exposed site however; prone to gale-force winds straight off the ocean.

Right from the outset the owners specified a Gerard Senator Shingle roof. They wanted a contemporary but timeless look, and a roofing material that would stand up to the high winds and salt-laden air. With its strong horizontal fastening system and corrosion-resistant zinc-aluminium sealed in a durable polymer coating, a Gerard lightweight steel roof was the logical choice. The light and shadow textures of the Senator Shingle profile in Charcoal created a contemporary look that’s also in perfect harmony with the volcanic stone.
