"...That’s one of the reasons we chose lightweight Gerard Corona Shake for the roof cladding – it needs much less structural support"
"The owner decided that a more sophisticated style was in order and that a tile look was preferable"
“Even the sound of the rain is fun,” she says. “When the rain hits the CoronaShake textured tiles, it tinkles rather than rattles like it would on a corrugated iron roof.
Builder Mark Duffy says the owners chose Gerard Corona Shake tiles in Charcoal as they suited the alpine setting. They also complement the plastered exterior of the house and Central Otago schist columns and walls.
"The Gerard Corona Shake roof has helped achieve the rustic country style that the owner specified, and nestles ino the park-like surroundings of the home." says Raewyn Bell from McRaeway Homes
“We were committed to a lightweight roof – it’s cost effective and it needs considerably less support than a concrete tile roof. And, just as importantly, we like the look of it. This house is to be lived in and to be enjoyed – it was important for us to achieve a balance. We love the look of the roof.”
The owners say it was particularly important to choose the right roofing for their renovation, as the house can be overlooked from many areas around the farm. Gerard Senator shingles in Eclipse were chosen as the most suitable option. As well as providing the right look, this roofing is lightweight and easy to maintain.
"The flatter, softer look of the Gerard Senator Shingle suits the large expanse of the roof, while the textures and colour are a perfect foil for the sparsely planted backdrop of the Port Hills".
The owners say they chose the roofing for it's visual appeal, light weight and low-maintenance properties. Like all Gerard Roofs products, Gerard Corona Shake comes with a 50-year warranty

The designers say Gerard Tuffcoat tiles were also chosen for their durability and light weight, which means there is no need for extra-strong framing to support the weight of the roof. This is a cost-effective building option.
Owners Dale and Tania Christie say they chose the tiles to emphasis the slightly Mediterranean look of the house and to enhance gabled roof line. The colour Charcoal also contrasts with the plastered exterior of the house...
"We are always looking to profile high-quality products, not just for our show homes, but for all our company's projects," he says. "For this house, the dark, bold look of the Gerard Corona Shake satin tiles was a perfect complement to the clean, plastered exterior of the home."
"Gerard Oberon Shingle gave a sophisticated textured finish to the roofline, and complemented the use of Otago Schist in the design"
"Nearby access roads look down on the home, so it was critical to get the choice of roof right. Visually, Gerard Corona Shake is far superior to any other roof" says owner Richard King.
Ambler and Young decided on Gerard Corona Shake for the roof, because they are light, durable and elegant.
"We didn't want the roofing to look too busy," says Denness. "The Senator Shingles have a flat look that works well with the brick." "Weather patterns are changing," he says. "We are finding winters are wetter and more windy. Gerard lightweight roofing is very tolerant of these conditions. The roofing is nailed through the rolled, leading edge of the tile, which makes it very secure. Its design also makes it very watertight."
As soon as he saw this house, he knew it was the one he wanted. A five-bedroomed townhouse – plenty of room for a home office – constructed from solid red brick and finished with a durable but lightweight Gerard Corona Shake textured roof, the whole house shouts ‘permanence’.
“We want a home that will last and that we can bring our children up in. Everything about this home is solid, from the plaster cladding exterior to the Gerard Corona Shake textured roof.”
"Using a high-pitched Gerard Colortile roof makes an impressive statement from the street and was an easy choice to make based on its 50-year weatherproof warranty, value for money and classic looks."
The aspect from the nearby water is striking – just as it was intended. Large windows, light plaster walls and Gerard Oberon Shingle roof helps the Berryman home stand out from the pack.
